Published Again – A Bittersweet Moment as a Visual Storyteller

I’m honored and excited to share that I was recently published once again in a local magazine — a moment that should be full of celebration. As a photographer who pours heart and purpose into every image, especially work that reflects our cultural heritage and uplifts the voices of our community, being recognized means so much.

But I’d be lying if I said it was all joy.

The Article Missed the Picture

While the article beautifully conveyed my mission — educating through imagery — it didn’t include any of my actual photographs. And I wasn’t interviewed for the piece, which felt like a missed opportunity to authentically represent a project I hold close to my heart.

I’ve dedicated countless hours to the Black Heritage Reenactment Series. This project isn't just about aesthetics; it's about honoring our roots, educating the youth, and telling untold stories through visuals. The absence of my work in a story centered on this mission left me with mixed emotions. I’m grateful to be mentioned, yes — but the full story deserves to be seen and heard.

Why I’m Still Celebrating

Despite the disappointment, I recognize the article isn’t incorrect. The essence of my passion was captured — and for that, I’m thankful. It’s a reminder that the work is reaching people. It's creating conversations. And that alone is something to celebrate.

So today, I’m choosing to take the reins and share the full picture — with my voice and my visuals.

The Black Heritage Reenactment Project: A Labor of Love

This project is sustained entirely by donations. Every session, every costume, every prop — even the time and energy of the amazing children involved — is made possible through community support.

It’s more than photography. It’s reenactment. It’s education. It’s empowerment. And it deserves visibility.

That’s why I’m inviting you to take a moment to view the images, read the stories, and share this page. Let’s amplify African American voices and preserve culture through meaningful art.
